Summary

This unit has reviewed the fundamentals of services, layering, and protocols. Protocols are implemented in layers because it is easier to maintain, upgrade, and add new functionality to software that is built into modules. The OSI model layers are used as a frame of reference in computer networking and are used throughout this course.
