Lesson 4 - Data Flow Across Networks

   Introduction

In Unit 5, we followed the flow of a client/server interaction across a single workgroup segment. This lesson traces the flow of information across a network that includes hubs, switches, routers, and wide area links. As we will see, the same principles govern data flow in both simple and complex networks.

   Objectives

At the end of this lesson you will be able to:

1.	Describe the process of transmitting a message across a segmented network
2.	Explain what data changes as it flows across a network and what does not
3.	Describe the function of ARP

Key Point
Each network device uses frame or packet header data to decide whether to forward a frame or packet.
