Lesson 1 - Repeaters and HubsChassis HubsA chassis hub is the largest hub configuration available, providing between 48 and 144 ports. Chassis hubs offer a variety of module and physical connection options, as illustrated on the Chassis Hub Diagram. Fiber, routers, gateways, bridges, and repeaters can all be mixed and matched within a chassis hub.
Chassis HubA chassis hub is efficient, because multiple modules share a single case, backplane, central processing unit (CPU), cooling system, and power supply. Chassis hubs are most appropriate for a larger business or enterprise environment where 100 to more than 1,000 users will be connected. A chassis hub typically offers the lowest cost per port when a large network needs a high-port-count device.
