Lesson 1 - Protocols

   Introduction

Protocols are essential to data communication; however, protocols are also used by people. Thus, this lesson introduces the basic concepts of computer protocols by comparing them to some of the common protocols we use to communicate every day.

   Objectives

At the end of this lesson you will be able to:

1.	Describe what protocols are and why they are necessary
2.	Explain the purpose of a protocol header
3.	Name and describe some of the human protocols we use to communicate with other people
