X.25
X.25 is a connectionless packet-switching network, public or private, typically built upon leased lines from public telephone networks. In the United States, X.25 is offered by most carriers. The X.25 interface lies at OSI Layer 3, rather than Layer 1. X.25 defines its own three-layer protocol stack, and provides data rates only up to 56 Kbps.

Xerox Network System (XNS)
XNS is the protocol suite developed by PARC for their first versions of Ethernet networks. Several of the major LAN vendors (notably Novell and Banyan) have based portions of their network architectures on the XNS model.
